Important information on abstract submission
Participants who would like to present an oral or poster presentation must submit an abstract for consideration by the scientific program committee.
Authors must strictly adhere to the instructions, otherwise abstracts cannot be considered for presentation.

The submitter is required to ensure that all authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission.

Authors are restricted to presenting only one poster during the meeting.
Submitters cannot submit more than two abstracts. The preferred type of presentation does not matter, but authors will not be be selected to present two oral presentations, nor will they be selected to present two poster presentations. Authors can only have one oral presentation, and they can have only one poster presentation. When both abstracts are selected for poster presentation, the organization will ask the submitter to remove one poster from the program.

You do not need to register for the conference in order to submit the abstract. If you are selected for a presentation, you are required to register to attend the conference. Having your abstract accepted does not automatically mean you are registered.

Submission Process

Guidelines for the preparation of abstracts:

  1. All abstracts must be in English.
  2. Please do not use abbreviations or references.
  3. The abstract title must be in lower case letters.
  4. Abstracts should not exceed 250 words.
  5. Abstract category - please select 1 category under which the abstract is to be reviewed after consulting the list of topics
  6. Abstracts should be as informative as possible and should use the following structured format (please include these elements, but do not formally state them):
    • Background and aims
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Conclusions

The abstract submission process for ISME19 will be through the online abstract submission portal.
Upon successful submission of the abstract a confirmation email will be sent to the Submitter. If you have not received a confirmation email, please check your spam inbox, and that your abstract is not left in draft and is fully submitted by logging back into the portal and checking on the Abstracts Overview page.

An abstract can be submitted for consideration of an Oral or Poster Presentation. At the review stage, the Organizing Committee may change the presentation type submitted by the author to ensure the continuity of the conference program i.e. oral presentation may be changed to poster presentation OR poster presentation to oral presentation. The Organizing Committee may also select an abstract for a poster pitch (i.e. a 2-minute presentation during the session to promote a poster in addition to a poster presentation). The Submitter will be informed of any change to their submitted presentation type at the acceptance notification stage. The Organizing Committee may also deem an abstract more suitable for another session than the session/topic selected by the submitter. This will also be made known to the Submitter at the notification stage.

Oral, poster pitch and poster presentation specifications will shared after the notification stage.

Edit a submitted abstract
You can save your submission as a draft and return to edit the submission at a later point. It is important to note that a submitted abstract cannot be edited after the abstract submission deadline of 23 February. Ensure that your abstract is not left in draft as it will not be reviewed.
